The Final Addition To Your Turf Nutrition
Omega Soil Activator is a proven carbon and humic acid-based formula that provides numerous benefits to the soil beneath turfgrass. Feeding and nourishing the soil properly is the key to growing strong, healthy strands of turfgrass. Whether you are a homeowner or a golf course, municipality, or landscape professional, vibrant healthy grass is rewarding and valuable.
We have developed this product as an addition to conventional turf programs. Omega Soil Activator is not designed to be a singular fix for all of your soil needs. The goal is to add a safe and natural product for increased organic matter, humic acid, and growth of beneficial microbes. Omega enhances the soil to activate microorganisms and promote nutrient uptake to maximize your grasses’ potential and build turf that is resilient to environmental challenges. If you already have a strong turf management program, Omega is likely, “The final addition to your turf nutrition.” We actually chose the name for this very reason. Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet and is used as a symbol to mean the best, final, or last of something. Our product completes traditional programs lacking a soil activator.
We’ve said Omega activates the soil, but you may be wondering “What is a Soil Activator?” We answer that question in more depth in the article. Soil activators are important for lawns and grasses because they address areas like thatch management and breaking down other various organic matter. Proper carbon and microbial levels are essential to creating a healthy soil structure regardless of grass type.
Omega is not a new product. Southland Organics has been working with commercial landscapers to develop the formula for the past 3 years. We have studied the results of the applications, made tissue samples, and monitored the application rates. The results continue to be strong and prove that Omega will take your turfgrass to the next level. With this product, we believe we have achieved the best soil activator for lawns and turf.
Omega Soil Activator Benefits
In field trials and customer applications, Omega Soil Activator has been shown to:
- Decrease nutrient runoff
- Provide a natural guard and reduce pathogen influence
- Greatly reduce Zoysia patch and large patch in lawns and fairways
- Increase plant growth and development
- Increase nutrient uptake
- Establish a balanced soil food web
- Provide relief to stressed and shocked root systems when laying new sods and plugs
- Increase soil energy as measured by Cation exchange capacity
- Reduce compaction in heavy clay soils
Omega contains lignin to bind (chelates) chemical compounds like fertilizer. This action keeps the nutrients in the root zone until beneficial soil biology can unlock them for the plant to use. With Omega, your new, healthy soil will efficiently break down nutrients (fertilizers and organic material). This makes it easier for your turf to use the fertilizer and nutrients you apply. This also reduces the runoff of pollutants that can find their way into our lakes and streams and eventually to our groundwater.
Omega provides necessary trace elements needed for a healthy lawn. Lawns need a number of minor elements to become and stay healthy. Some of these are required in very small amounts, but all are essential to the plant in some way. Omega contains as many as 72 natural trace elements in a form that is readily available to your turfgrass.
Carbon and organic matter are key to a healthy soil ecosystem. Managing ratios such as C:N (Carbon to Nitrogen Ratio) is not only important to a compost pile but to the overall fertility of soil. These ratios show how efficient microbes can return to the soil valuable nutrients found in grass clippings and thatch. Carbon and composting are not only for flower beds and vegetable gardens but also turf and overall plant food.
It also improves drought resistance and temperature tolerance. Stronger lawns with deeper roots, assisted by healthy beneficial soil biology, make yards more drought resistant. The biologically active carbon and organic acids oxygenate deep into the root zone. This provides a liquid aerating of the soil structure. Your stronger and healthier lawn will be able to handle wider temperature swings. Omega should be considered for your preconditioning needs.
Soil activators are not a quick fix that should be added once a problem arises. Instead, properly adding Omega to a fertilization program creates a complete system for soil health. Commercial applicators have raved about how easy it is to use. Most soil inoculant and carbon products are finicky and can’t be easily incorporated into turf management programs. This is where Omega excels. We have witnessed great success while applying with fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.
Omega is well-blended and sprays well. It maintains a smooth texture and sprays easily even with low volume, low-pressure spray rigs. The only knock that we have received during the past three years is that the dark color overtakes marking dye. This makes foam spray markers the solution to eliminate overspray.
The recommended rate is 8 oz per 1000 square feet. We suggest a minimum dilution ratio of 1:10. Often, more water is better for uniform spraying and proper inoculation. Applications every 30 to 45 days are highly recommended. We go into depth on application processes and rates in our article When to Apply Soil Activators
Apply 4-6 oz. per thousand square feet OR 6-8 oz. per gallon of water.
Apply once per month for at least 3-4 consecutive applications starting 2 weeks prior to green up.
Omega is versatile and can be combined with Liquid Fish, other fertilizers, and fungicides so that two separate applications are not needed.
